KUMITE POINT
WSDO First Contact system

Kumite Point also known as Free Style Karate Point or First-Contact  It was created in the United States towards the end of the 60’s, to imitate the shiai kumite or sport combat developed for Karate Do by Gogen Yamaguchi and widely popularized from the mid 50’s’ till today.
Originally, combat tournaments from North America copied in regulation and technique to Japanese, but given the large number of injuries resulting from the lack of protection equipment and the different ways of understanding “contact” due to the multiplicity of styles. They began by wearing gloves, shin guards and helmets to protect competitors and differentiate the categories.
The “competition protections” is usually attributed its invention to Master John Rhee, teacher of Taekwondo. He created some protections (gloves, helmet, shin guards etc) made of synthetic foam or polymer that is now used in modern martial arts and sport combat tournaments.

Pat Worley (left) and Byong Yu are the first to try theses protections in 1972.
Kumite Point has as its main objective the training for the competition of first-contact point combat and mainly uses techniques of karate, Taekwondo and Kung-Fu.
The KUMITE POINT– WSDO First Contact System was developed by Grand Master Miguel Abreu, who created a method and system of competition with a regulation and use of protections that has as main objective the protection of the physical integrity of its competitors. Being the KUMITE POINT-  WSDO First-Contact System is a method of competition accessible to practitioners of all ages and both sexes. Children see the Kumite Point competition as a game and not as a combat.

Practitioners or Instructors also Wear the WSDO University General Uniform:
